The Center of the Universe Festival 2015

Center of the Universe Festival 2105
The Center of the Universe Festival is an annual, 2 day music festival located in downtown Tulsa in the Brady Arts District. The festival is named after the downtown Tulsa landmark “The Center of the Universe”. This was the third year for the festival, and our first year to attend. This year the festival features over 100 bands on 3 outdoor stages and scattered throughout the multiple stages located in the clubs and venues throughout the Brady Arts District.
There was a very diverse variety of bands for people of all ages to enjoy. So whether you were the two year old girl and her brother dancing to Roxy Roca at the Guthrie Green Stage, or the 60 year old couple listening to Nicnos at the Oklahoma Showcase Stage, there was something for everyone. If you wanted a break from the music, the streets were line up with food trucks to make sure you didn’t go hungry. There were also several street vendors selling a wide variety of goods.
While this was only the third year of this festival, I honestly believe a lot of other festivals should take notes from this one. From the minute we arrived walked in the gates, I knew this wasn’t going to be like any other festival we have been to. This was by far the most organized and crowd friendly festival I have ever been to. It was a breath of fresh air. If you had questions, there were info tents as well as volunteers with “Info” flags standing at most of the intersections to help festival goers make the most of their experience. Since the weather was typical, 100 degree, Oklahoma July temps, they allowed you to bring in a sealed bottle of water and had several water refill stations set up free of charge. They also had huge mister tents set up with plenty of seating in each of them for people to try and escape the heat.
In my opinion, you should absolutely make plans to attend this festival next year. I will make sure I am there. My only two regrets are that this was my first year to go, and that I was unable to attend Friday night. You can download the Center of the Universe Festival app to help you keep track of the lineup and schedule to make it easier for you. The app allowed you to tap on the bands you didn’t want to miss and it could give you a reminder notification so you didn’t miss that band. I used the app and found it very helpful.
The Center of the Universe Festival gets two thumbs up from me. Along with being a great festival, they give back to the community as well. A portion of the proceeds go to the Tulsa Public Schools Music Program. The festival also supports Oklahoma artists through numerous funds. Check out their website for more information,, and make plans to attend next year.
