Mastodon recently made a tour stop in Oklahoma City at the legendary Diamond Ballroom on Friday the 13th, of October. The show, dubbed by our local radio station as the “Monster Mosh”, was a packed house. It was great to see Mastodon back in OKC. The last time they were scheduled to play here, they were on tour with Clutch in 2015 I believe. That night got cut short in part by a power outage at the venue due to the tornado that hit roughly a mile away from the venue. What a way to welcome them to OKC. I am glad there was not a repeat of any of that this time, and we actually got to see the Mastodon set. And and what an amazing set it was.
Mastodon released their seventh studio album “Emperor of Sand” on March 31st of this year. In addition to seven studio albums, the band also released their demo in 2000 followed by an EP in 2001. That is alot of music since the bands inception in 2000.
I always find it impressive when a band has more than one member who does vocals. And I don’t mean just back up vocals. I mean actually singing the entire song. That kind of flexibility and diversity very rare with in the music industry. I think it brings added depth to a band.
