Halestorm recently visited Oklahoma City’s Diamond Ballroom on their Halloween Scream Tour with Starset and New Year’s Day. I have personally never seen Halestorm on a smaller stage, it has always been large festivals. So for me to get to see them in this more intimate setting was amazing. By no means is the Diamond Ballroom small, but it holds roughly 1,000 people as compared to the tens of thousands that are at the festivals I have seen them on. And the Diamond Ballroom had to be at capacity for this show…that building was packed. Prior to doors opening, the line outside went the length of the building and wrapped all the way down the parking lot to the road. I have never seen that many people in line prior to a show there.
New Year’s Day and Starset are amazing bands to start out this show. They definitely made sure the crowd’s energy level was up for Halestorm. When the house lights went out, the crowd went crazy. Then all you can hear are Lzzy’s vocals singing the beginning of “I Get Off”. About 20 seconds into that, she walks up the steps to take the stage, with the rest of the band to follow.
Obviously, Halestorm has been at this for a long time now, so what can I possibly say that you don’t already know. I wish I knew what Lzzy does to keep her vocals in top notch shape. Her vocals are absolutely unbelievable. She just leaves you in awe.
Their rendition of Whitesnake’s “Still of the Night” was an awesome addition to the set list. I was completely surprised when she went to the keyboard to belt out Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” right before she sang “Dear Daughter”, I got goosebumps. That was perfect!!!
Check out the bands website, www.halestormrocks.com, for tour dates, the Halestorm store, Lzzy’s diary, and links to the bands social media sites. While there are only a couple of tour dates left, the band is working on their next album. I for one, always love new Halestorm music, and can’t wait to hear it.
